It's live. After months of building, testing on too many borrowed iPhones, and one very long staring contest with App Review, Travler is now on the App Store. You can download it right now. It's free, and you don't need an account.
If you're new here: Travler is a small app that helps a group of friends actually decide where to go. Not plan the whole trip in some project-manager way. Just make the one decision that every group trip dies on: where.
Why we built it
You know the loop. Someone drops an Airbnb in the group chat at 1am. Two people react with a fire emoji. Someone else suggests a completely different country. Then silence for three weeks, and the trip quietly dies somewhere around message 200. We got tired of watching that happen to our own trips, so we built the thing we wished existed.
How it works
You create a board for the trip and invite your crew with a link. Everyone pastes the places they actually want to go. Airbnb, Booking.com and 40+ other travel sites unfurl into cards with the photo, price and location pulled in automatically. Then everyone votes Yes, Maybe or No.
The votes are weighted, so a Yes counts more than a Maybe and a Maybe counts more than a No. Votes lock once they're in, so nobody flips their pick at the last second. When the dust settles, the trip the group truly wants is sitting at the top. A decision, in writing. Nobody can claim they never agreed to it.
The stuff we refused to compromise on
- No accounts. Open the app and you're in. No email, no password to forget.
- End-to-end encryption. Your board and chat are encrypted on your device. We can't read them, and neither can anyone outside your group.
- Free to use. Boards, voting and chat cost nothing. We show a few ads, and one Board Pass removes them for everyone on the board.
What's next
Android is in the works. We know, we know. It's coming. In the meantime, if you're on iPhone: grab the app, start a board for that trip your group has been talking about since last summer, and send it to the chat. That's the whole onboarding.
